Few modern Winchester variations tell a story as distinctly American as the Dodge Marksman 1000 commemorative Model 94 XTR. Produced as a limited promotional run in 1983-84, these .30-30 Winchester carbines were distributed by Dodge dealers to customers purchasing new 1984 Dodge Marksman pickups.
Dodge fitted these with factory gun racks and a dash of country-road marketing flair. This example, serial 5062459, is one of only 775 made. It survives today in like-new, unfired condition, complete in its original factory packaging.
(As a side note, also offered in the November Collection is another example of a truck being paired with a rifle. In that instance, it’s the Chevy K10 Outdoorsman and that listing is for both the rifle and the truck.)
Dodge Marksman Winchester 94; Promotional Dress
Mechanically and dimensionally, the rifle is a tried-and-true Model 94 through and through. The compact 20-inch blued barrel and straight-grip lever action deliver the balance and handling that made the Model 94 a staple in North America. Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, it’s configured as a true carbine. Light, quick to shoulder and ideal for brush country or a truck-bed outing.
Cosmetically, this XTR comes in exceptional untouched condition. The sticker noting that the stock is genuine walnut wood is still firmly attached and unmarred. The right side of the buttstock is inset with a commemorative medallion carrying Dodge’s ram’s head logo and the legends “1984 Dodge Marksman,” “1000,” and “Winchester,” a small but evocative badge that ties the rifle directly to its promotional origin.
A Complete Package
Completeness enhances desirability here. This carbine is new in the factory box and remains unfired. It even has the original hang tag still tied to the rifle’s tang. The kit includes the instruction manual, warranty and product registration cards. The supporting marketing literature that once accompanied the truck-sale promotion is in the box.
The cardboard box shows damage at one end — an unfortunate puncture where the rifle’s hammer once made contact and a scuff to the label — but the crucial manufacturing and serial information remains clearly visible. Most importantly, though, is that the graphic of the Dodge Marksman truck on the box is still in fantastic condition.
Rarity and Appeal
A mere 775 rifles in the series were produced. Far fewer survive in unfired, factory-complete condition with original paperwork and commemorative medallion intact. That scarcity, combined with an unusual provenance linking a major American automaker to an iconic lever gun, places this Model 94 XTR squarely in the crosshairs of Winchester collectors, Dodge truck collectors and enthusiasts of Americana ephemera.
This is not merely a Winchester carbine. It’s a packaged piece of 1980s automotive promotion assembled by Winchester, carried home in a Dodge and preserved as a time capsule. For the collector who prizes condition, completeness and a story that goes beyond serial numbers, this Dodge Marksman 1000 example is a tasteful, rare addition to any lever-gun trove.
You’ve found the gun. Now, the hunt is on for the truck!
