The European Model Colt: Western Gun with Flair

Colt’s Single Action Army revolver is often referred to as “The Gun That Won the West.” Many consider it to be the epitome of 19th century revolver design, and there’s no denying its unbreakable connection to the American west. And yet, the gun being offered in the April Collector’s Elite Auction is entirely European — a European Model Colt

Made for a very brief period between 1991 and 1992, this is a European Model Colt Single Action Army, and it’s chambered for the 9mm cartridge. Offered exclusively through the Colt Custom Shop, these revolvers were available in three different barrel lengths: 4.75, 5.5 and 7.5 inches. The one offered here is just one of 110 made with a 5.5-inch barrel. The serial number dates it to the end of production in 1992.

Excellent Condition European Model Colt

Featuring Type “A” Journeyman engraving, rosewood grips with silver Colt medallions, and a nickel finish, this gun is a visual feast. The barrel, cylinder, loading gate, frame and backstrap were engraved in a way that is tasteful without overpowering the gun’s elegant lines.

The 9mm chambering is unusual. It is a cartridge that normally associated with semi-automatic pistols and not revolvers. However, that’s precisely what makes this revolver a European Colt Model. The 9mm is more readily available in Europe than the standard revolver calibers in the United States. It’s also important to remember that while we often think of 9mm as being a modern cartridge, it actually dates back to 1901. When paired with a gun that was designed in 1873, it’s not really that unusual of a match after all.

The particular Single Action Army European Model being offered appears just as it did when it was made in 1992. The lucky winning bidder will get the gun, along with all of the original packaging. This includes the paperwork, instructions, warranty card, etc. It also comes with the original blue Colt Custom Shop box and the outer white shipping box. The end label on the shipping box verifies by serial number that it goes with this gun. It also notes the revolver as a European Model Colt

Just 270 of these European Model Colt revolvers were made in 1991 and 1992. That’s an exceptionally small run of guns. Don’t miss your opportunity to bring home a very unique piece of Colt’s Single Action Army history.
